Printing from Photoshop
Printing from Photoshop using the Print Preview function is a great way to double-check how your document will look before printing.
You will find Print Preview under the File menu in Photoshop CS. Once you have your document ready to print, click on Print Preview in the drop-down menu. A Print Preview window will open which looks like this:
Notice under the Scaled Print Size section, the dimensions of your document which is scaled at 100%. No clipping of your document has occurred in this case.
Next we click on the Page Setup button shown above in red and another window will pop up:
Under the Paper section, note the size of the document. It's default setting is often set to Letter. Make sure you have changed this to A4, if this is the size of the document you will be printing.
Now we click on the Printer button highlighted in red above and another window will open:
This window just gives you the information about the printer you will be printing on. For example, if your printer was switched off, another window would pop up letting you know that your printer is offline and to switch it back on.
Now we click on the Properties button highlighted in red above and yet another window will open:
Most printers have a similar window to this one. It gives you all the information you need to know to set the final settings before you begin to print.
Shown above is the main page. This is where we change the media type (or paper type) we will be printing on. I am printing on matte photo paper so I have selected this from the drop down menu.
When printing on photo paper you will always want your print quality set to the highest quality setting for the best results possible.
Make sure you check the box on Preview before printing (or similar) so we can check one last time that nothing will be cropped during printing.
We now move over to the next tab which is Page setup shown below:Check that your page size is still set to the correct size and check for which orientation your document is in. Portrait or landscape.
These are the main settings you will need to set when printing from Photoshop.
All that is left to do is confirm all the windows you have open until you get back to the first window you originally started with and click to Print.
The Print Preview window should open:Check that the settings are correct and click to start printing!
