Tutorial Chipboard with paint
Program Paint Shop Pro 7
Author Loretta Marwick
Date September 2006

This is a basic tutorial. I won’t give you colours or settings for all effects etc so your results will truly be yours. You will learn how to create chipboard from using the alphabet on your program and how to apply a colour to it that will look like paint.
No need to link here but if you like to credit where you learnt how to make these please do - Loretta Marwick of Paisley Blues.

Suggested chipboard pallette - light, medium and dark brown. Chipboard Pallette

  1. Open a new file 7×3in, resolution 300dpi. Transparent is fine.
  2. Press the letters option and type in your name or word that you want to try. Lets stick to 5 letters or less. You might need to play around with your text size (I used 800 - 900, font: Haettenschweiler). I left the outline on the text off, selected vector, choose my colour which will be the chipboard and left the antialias on. Align text in the center. (Select Objects, Align).
  3. Select the vector layer and right click, select create raster selection, go to Selections and press Promote to Layer. Hide vector layer. Go Selections and Save to Alpha Channel. While the selection is still on and you feel like changing the colour do so now.
  4. Go to Effects, Texture, select Fur OR go to Effects, Texture, select Leather OR You can play with the marbling in the Plug-In Filters, Eye Candy 4000
  5. Go to Effects, Noise, Add
  6. Effects, 3D Effects, Add Inner Bevel. When you find a setting that you like, save it as Chipboard (or something that you will remember). I have provided an example of what I did and have used.
    Bevel
  7. Add a new layer, is your selection still on? Good. If not load it from the alpha channel.
  8. Effects, Cutout Select the dark brown.
    Cutout
  9. Chipboard is now complete. Save it without merging layers.

Lets add Paint

  1. New layer, load selection from the alpha channel (your word).
  2. Select, Modify, Contract 10
  3. Fill with colour
  4. Effects, Plug-in Filters, Eye Candy 3.1, Jiggle (Below is suggested jiggle)
    Jiggle 1
  5. Repeat 4 but use brownian motion instead of Bubbles. Play with the setting to get a slight scruffy edge.
  6. Effects, 3D Effects, Add Inner Bevel(suggested settings and remember to save your settings).
    Paint

This only works for solid colours. If you use it with patterns it will distort.
