The rule of thirds doesn’t just apply to taking photos, it can also apply to our scrapbooking layouts. Using the rule of thirds on your page allows the eye to flow and makes your pages more interesting and pleasing to the eye. How to achieve this? Place a grid on your document. Let’s look at some examples…

When you place a grid dividing the page into 9 equal spaces, you’ll find the point of interest located on one of the intersections… and everything around it flows upward and downward away from that point:

This page by Chaos Lounge also has the same focal point:

This page by Mother Bear has her focal point in the bottom quadrant:

Another way to create flow on your page is to create a triangle, like on this page by tanpopo:

She’s placed her photo cluster and 2 more clusters in such a way that a triangle is formed that leads the eye around the page:

Ren has also done this with her page with her photo cluster and 1 other cluster to the side:
