Wacky Wednesday
Believe it or not, today is Pig in a Blanket Day! When I was a kid, pigs in blankets was my favorite, and Mom liked them because they are super simple to make, and she didn’t have to fight us to eat them, lol. There are several variations on the recipe, but most use just 2 main ingredients: Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and Hot Dogs (or Lil Smokies)
You can, of course, get all fancy schmancy and make your own dough to wrap the little weiners, but… why? lol Pillsbury has already done all that work for you 😉 Really, any of their canned doughs will work for these, you’d just have to flatten it out if you purchase any of their canned biscuits!
Preheat your oven to 375°. Separate crescent dough into triangles. Place hot dogs at the wide ends of triangles and roll up. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Combine 1 egg and 1tbsp water; brush over rolls. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Seriously, that’s all you do! If you want to use Lil Smokies instead, you can cut the crescent dough in half length-wise and do them the same way.
There are several variations on this – you can add cheese. There’s a keto diet version. British Pigs in Blankets (:O THEY USE BACON!). Breakfast Pigs in Blankets. Low fat. Mini Pretzel dogs. Teriyaki anyone? How about French Toast? Or Sweet & Spicy?
And don’t forget the sauces! You have to dip them, right? You can be boring and dip in ketchup and/or mustard (*AHEM*COUGH*COUGH* I’m boring LOL!). There’s also Honey Dijon, Russian Sauce, and Gouda
These little dogs are not only great for kids, but they make great appetizers and ‘game day’ snacks as well! Now I’m hungry and want a few (several!) Pig in a Blanket snack!
