Wordy Wednesday
Let’s be honest for 5 seconds here… as scrapbookers, we are font hoarders. Don’t try to deny it, you know you are. I was in denial until my first computer crash in 2010. Not only did I cry for all the lost photos and scrapbook supplies – both my own and those I purchased – but I also cried for all of the fonts I had lost and would have to find again. Even after over 9 years of re-collecting, I’m sitting on a modest collection of 665 fonts.
Shameless plug: get BACKBLAZE if you don’t have some kind of backup already. Yes that is a referral link. No, you don’t have to click it and no, I didn’t get paid to mention them. If you sign up via my referral link, though, I’ll get a free month of backup. Not a big deal, I happily pay by the year 😉 Just go to backblaze.com and check them out. I have been using them for several years now and haven’t lost 1 single file in the 2 computer crashes I have had since 2010. Peace of mind, thankyouverymuch.
Back to fonts. Using them on our scrapbook pages for title work and journaling can be essential to our storytelling. Pairing them up can be a lot of frustrating work, though, especially with so many in our stashes to choose from. I recommend using a font program that you can use to see all of your fonts – even one that will load them, so you don’t have to install them all (and possibly causing a computer crash, lol). I use High-Logic MainType (not a referral link!)… they have a free download, and you never have to pay for it unless you just want to. You can see the fonts in your specified folder(s) – AND – it will load your fonts to your computer without installing them so you can use them in your programs. Love it!
Squirrel. Back to pairing fonts. LOL! Kimberly Geswein, one of my favorite font creators, has an excellent resource on her site about pairing fonts – scroll to the bottom of the page and click on her font pairing guide PDF. It’s 9 or 10 pages long and loaded with good info! (and pssssssst……… you can download all her fonts on that page in one download to use for personal projects!)
Here’s a look at Tip One:
Her PDF will make it easier for you to choose your font pairings on your pages, honest ♥
