Wine Wednesday

Y’all. Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! How did that happen? After I realized this last night, I did not pass GO, I did not collect $200, I went straight to the Kroger website and ordered everything I’ll need for our Thanksgiving menu, including a 25ish pound turkey. I have to get it big because the husband is Canadian, and I refuse to cook Thanksgiving dinner in both October AND November 😛 So. What’s on the menu? Aside from turkey, we have green bean casserole, yams with marshmallows, mashed potatoes (dang… I forgot to order potatoes. SIGH!), rolls, homemade gravy from turkey drippings, and cranberry sauce. For dessert, I usually make pies – from scratch – but I’m cheating this year… I ordered Marie Callendar’s cherry, pecan, apple and pumpkin pies 😛 Frozen pies! Sacrilege! I know! However, I really don’t want to be spending all night before Thanksgiving in the kitchen… nor do I wish to be there the day of.

I have a final I have to take that weekend, ok? I have to study!

I’m really sad that we can’t go to my parent’s house for Thanksgiving – again. I think this makes the third, maybe fourth year that we’ve had to miss out. With the work schedules we have going on here (and another added this year), it just isn’t possible. There’s always a huge spread, all of the family, and several friends of the family.

The food is always spot on (I mean, it’s mom’s cooking, c’mon!), but I miss spending time with the family the most. Yes, I have my own family to spend it with, but I like the big family gatherings the best 🙂

Ok, I kind of got off topic. See the wine on the table? Yep. It’s Wine Wednesday. My parent’s house always has wine.

And that’s not even half of it LOL! Every time I go down to visit, I end up making a stop at one of the vineyards up here to pick up an order before we head to their house, hehehe.

Mom brought out a beautiful cranberry wine for Thanksgiving one year, that I believe was from Jules Berta. I’m not a wine person, but man, that stuff is GOOD! She tries to have that on hand for Thanksgiving every year because it goes really well with the meal.

What goes on your drink menu? Do you serve wine? Or something else?

Perhaps, pumpkin pie martinis?

I wouldn’t mind trying that myself 😉
