“Did you know….?” Every time I heard this, I knew my 20 year old was about to grace us with some weird fact or tidbit of info. For instance, did you know that the Goodyear Blimp is the official bird of Redondo Beach, California? Did you know spider webs were used as bandages in ancient times? (I guess they had to use SOMEthing, but… ew.) Did you know snails have teeth?

Really?

Well, here’s something HE didn’t know: On this day in history, Elias Howe applied for the patent for one of his inventions – the zipper. Yep. Zippity Doo Dah! He called it the “Fastening for Garments”.

It had issues, but he didn’t fix them, he was too busy inventing the first sewing machine!
