I scrapped a page! Actually, I created this collection (
Thankful4You) to help me tell this story. It was a terrifying day when my oldest grandson was in a motorcycle accident. Here's the journaling:
When we were in Oklahoma this summer, Jax showed us his new Harley. We were happy for him, but a little worried, too. He promised he would always wear his helmet. On Halloween Day, I got a phone call from his mom, saying that he had just called her, saying he thought he had been in an accident. PANIC! She spoke to the ambulance tech & headed to the hospital and I sat here, with his younger sister, Brookelynne, at my house - 18 hours away. We did the only thing that we could. We prayed...a LOT! A few minutes later, I got a call on messenger from JAXON. I picked it up, expecting to hear from a paramedic, but it was Jax. He sounded coherent & told me he had been in the fast lane of the freeway, driving 70 mph, and that the car in front of him slammed on their brakes. He hit their right, rear tail light. & that’s all he remembers. He told me that the driver braked to avoid hitting a dog. He doesn’t even remember calling me now, but that’s probably a good thing. He was run over by his own motorcycle and ended up in the right shoulder of the freeway. It was both heartbreaking and reassuring to talk to him. He was in the ambulance when he called, but didn’t know the extent of his injuries. I could tell he was in a lot of pain, and asked him a couple of questions about how he felt, but he just didn’t know. Brookie and I both told him that we loved him and then said goodbye. Then we waited for a call from Jami. A few hours later, she finally called to confirm that he was going to be fine. The only injuries they could find were a broken right wrist (he’s left handed) and a detached forearm muscle. He’ll need a couple of surgeries, but he’s alive. He can walk...and I’m so thankful that he was protected that day from serious injury. I can’t imagine my life without my very first grandson. I’m so thankful for him....and for motorcycle helmets! This was one Halloween Day that I’ll never forget!
