Journalling reads: I first started scrapbooking to chronicle and display my photos. I thought that it really wasnt going to be much more than getting those poor pictures out of the shoebox and into an album so that my family could actually enjoy them. What I didnt realize was that it was to forever change the way that I captured and expressed my memories.
You see the funny thing about memory is that at times it can be crystal clear and then at other times it can be ethereal, slipping through the cracks of time. Memory can be triggered by a smell, a sight, a snippet of a song or even the retelling of someone elses story. Scrapbooking, for me has become a way of freezing time and preserving it so that it wont become lost. I like that scrapbooking can be about retelling an event like Christmas or Birthdays and yet at the same time celebrates the relationships in my familys life. It also reflects my own thoughts and emotions on the things that are important to me.
Scrapbooking has changed the way I photograph the people, places and even things in my life. I can focus on a minute detail or pull out and capture the whole day in one snap of the shutter. It has made me more reflective, more appreciative and makes me feel connected to a larger whole. I love scrapbooking because it captures a moment and enables me to share my thoughts and feelings. Most of all scrapbooking helps me savour the journey along the way.
