FRIENDSHIP
Our religion was not the same. Our politics were not the same. But that never affected how my dear friend, Joyce Marie Stovall loved me and my family. She was a true friend for all times and in all circumstances. We met while working at the law firm. During her employment interview with Greg, our youngest daughter, Melissa (14y) called and he took her call. The tender way he talked to Melissa impressed Joyce and she told me later, “I decided right then and there that I wanted to work for that man.” Beautiful, slender, stylish, 6 foot-plus, Joyce, was an intelligent and compassionate lawyer, an accomplished musician, artist, sculptor, a world traveler. She had one son and a doberman pinscher pup (named KoKo) that was taller than me. Her heart was pure gold. She didn’t know a stranger. Her love and concern for my family was incredible. She cried when she heard of my son’s brain aneurism and my daughter’s divorce. In 2018 she called to tell me that she was ill. Though she suffered through breast cancer treatments and three strokes, she remained optimistic and cheerful. When the cancer spread to her brain she went to live at The Lund Home, Hospice of the Valley. She passed away several weeks later, on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2019 (in the very same room as my mother in 2017). She was 68. I miss you, Joyce - my best friend forever.
