Before receiving his marching orders from the Lord, Joshua runs a little reconnaissance mission and takes a look at the fortified wall around Jericho. While doing so, he is confronted by a man with a drawn sword ... the commander of the army of the Lord (Joshua 5:14). Seeing God ready for battle, Joshua asks, Are you for us or for our enemies? (Joshua 5:13). In the book Unglued, Chapter 2, Lysa states that she feels that Joshua isnt walking in complete confidence and assurance. Otherwise, he wouldnt have needed to ask the question. God didnt answer the way you might expect. The presence of Gods answer to Joshuas question is, neither. Lysa goes on to explain that the reason for Gods answer is that Joshua asked the wrong question. The real question Joshua should have asked was one of himself: Whose side am I on?. Is it Gods side? The issue of trust is settled if we can answer that we are on Gods side in every situation. If we can ground ourselves in the reality that we trust God, we can face circumstances that are out of our control without acting out of control. We cant always fix our circumstances, but we can fix our minds on God. (Lysa TerKourst). Joshua did ... and the walls of Jericho fell ... what seemed impossible happened just as God said that it would. I like the thought of impossible being erased from my vocabulary is one of my favorite quotes from Chapter 2 of Unglued. The idea is so inspiring! The struggles with feeling unglued can make me feel like a failure - over and over again. With the understanding that regardless of the circumstances or situation I find myself in I am on Gods side, I have a new perspective. I simply see things differently. Because I trust the Lord and I am on His side, I can face things out of my control without acting out of control. I am not a freak-out woman.
