Around here Pappy’s is an institution! Started in 1959 with 4 partners it soon grew to 9 restaurants in 3 states, though they eventually down-sized to this one. Our children met friends there for coffee through high school and college. We often had Sunday lunch there while Ed’s Mom
was still with us. In the hall there are pictures of many of the celebrities that Bob Torres knew through “Los Rancheros Visitadores” riding club. We moved to Santa Maria in 1983 and got to know Bob, who had became sole owner of the restaurant in 1971. In 2000, Bob planted acres of wine grapes and Ed was an enthusiastic customer of the wine. Bob would bring bottles into the restaurant for him. In 2011 Bob sold the diner, which still exists, though we liked it better when Bob ran it. It was the best diner around here!
