Being appointed to the base Color Guard Detail was a signal honor, to be the first woman appointed to it, more so. Burtonwood Army Depot, indeed RAF Burtonwood, were decommissioned not too long after I transferred out, but it was a wonderful assignment. This detail in November of 1976 was followed the next spring by marching in Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee parade in Liverpool. Always afterward came invitation to the local military unit's mess for dinner and dancing. Loved it!
