Summer Vacation, anyone?

I know that there are lots of you who work year round, but for those who are teachers or work in other school-related jobs (or those who just want to get away for a bit) what are you doing on your summer vacation?

This year, we (me, my husband, and our 2 boys - 11 & 13) are going to the coast for a few days and toward the end of the summer I want to go on another road trip. Maybe to Big Bend. Last year we went to Carlsbad Caverns and Roswell, NM. and the boys really had a good time.

So, whare you going to do this summer?

We have a couple of fun trips planned. We're taking two of our kids and eight grandkids to the Oregon coast at the end of July. We have a family reunion in the Portland area, so we're starting with the south end of Oregon, doing the Rogue River Jet Boat trip, a few days at the coast, whale watching, and then north to the reunion. One of my daughter and her hubby can't go with us because she's expecting a baby and is due shortly after that. Lol, she doesn't want to have the baby on the road. So, Kees and I will probably need a vacation to recover from entertaining grandkids

Later in the year (mid September), Kees and I are headed to Europe again. We're going to tour Ireland for a week, then go spend a week with his parents in The Netherlands. It's their 50th wedding anniversary, so that will be fun. That's not really a summer trip, but a trip to that part of the world is exciting anytime

Carola - that all sounds like lots of fun and I cannot believe your boys are THAT old already!!!!

Faye - Wow - you are a brave soul taking all of your grandbabies on a trip!

Our neighbor just got back from Ireland and said it was awesome!!

We have one week off over the 4th of July because my hubby workplace closes down for that week. It's a bad week to have off here in the US, because everything is either booked up or VERY expensive. Two years ago we went to Door Co, Wisconsin and ended up paying $300 a night for a room!! (And stayed 4 nights!).

So as of right now, no plans for that week.

Faye - sounds like a great time, but how on earth do you plan to travel with that many grandkids?
Ireland and the Netherlands sound awesome, I am so envious! We have some friends who just moved to Amsterdam and I have always wanted to go to Ireland

Jill, can you believe it, when we first met I was scrapping baby pictures of Ian and Alex was only 2! Since you don't have any concrete vaction plans for the summer, you'll get to relax a bit and take lots of weekend rides

I would LOVE to take a big vacation again this year. But we will probably stay close to home this summer. We live in the NE Georgia mountains, so we may take our grandson to some local parks and waterfalls in our area.

We live in Texas - flat but with the rains recently, we have gotten to see a few waterfalls that don't always exist. I'm sure that the ones you can find in the mountains are just gorgeous!

We just returned from a backpacking trip through Thailand and Cambodia. It was amazing!!! Once you get there then it is relatively inexpensive. Our most expensive motel was $24 a night (that was for 6 of us) and meals were around $3 a plate tops. I felt like we were in National Geographic and I took so many photos I think I will be scrapping them for the rest of my life!!!! Anyone who can go should do it , AMAZING!!

Sounds awesome! Did you go through an agency to set it up?

Wow - such amazing places to travel.

We hope to go to Portland to see family next year and hope we may do a trip from Vancouver right down to Newport Beach south of LA

We have just come back from two weeks in Florida and that jet lag is a killer

It's our 30th wedding anniversary next year and so we are planning to do something - but no idea what - to celebrate. Possibly just going over to Europe. We renewed our vows in paris on our 25th so that was kind of our biggie.

JUST going to Europe??? Thats a big deal for any of us! 30th wedding anniversary is no small accomplishment, either - Congrats (even though it is a bit early!)

This summer we are going to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary at Addison. It is the most adorable venue in Boca Raton and we are also planning for going to beaches. Going to have a great day with lots of fun. Waiting for the day to come.

Now that summer is over.... hahaha. We went on a "camping" trip for a weekend at the end of july/early august. And now that it's cooling down here in AZ, we'll take a trip to the zoo next week. I'm excited for those pictures!!

That is so funny, but I know how you feel - being excited for the pictures you can get from a trip. Whenever we go downtown (read: to the riverwalk) I am soooo stoked about getting pictures there!
