Hi at all - my name is Gina and I am hosting this week's Technique Challenge.
It's about warped shadows.
We often use shadows on our layouts. I know we all love our normal settings.
That is absolutely ok.
But did you ever think about to create this more interesting?
I will show you some examples how you can change a shadow.
The first important thing is: your shadow must be on a separate layer.
Click in your Layer Palette on the Effects (not on the layer),
right click on your mouse
and choose Create Layer in the context menu

With the transformation tool you have some options.
Size – Rotate – Skew – Distort – Perspektive - Warp
(I am using Photoshop – in other programs this will be different).
One of the easiest way to change parts of a shadow is the Warp tool.
In my example I use a bow.

It is better to use a shadow with a small Distance and Size.
On your shadow layer
go to Edit -> Tranform -> Warp
You will now see a grid.

You can move the corner points or the intersections in the grid.

The next shadow you can use for a title.
Here too, the shadow should not be too large.
On your shadow layer
go to Edit ->Transform -> Distort.

You can move all tranform points now until the shadow according to your wish.

The next shadow is optinal because I don’t know if this filter is in other programs, too.
But I wouldn’t like to go without showing you the Filter Liquify.
I chose a paper and built a paper section.
The paper section get a shadow.

Now I would like to give the paper section the appearance of standing out a bit.
On your shadow layer go to Filter → Liquify.
Try this properties (you can change them if you like)

You will see the shadow in a big preview.
Go with the center of the brush tool to the bottom edge and slide it a little bit to the right side.
This is the result.

Now it’s up to you!
Create a layout in your own style
and use a warped shadow on at least an element, title or a paper.

Have fun!
Looking forward to your layouts.
