I had so many fun opportunities when I was in the US Army. In 1974 women still served in the Women's Army Corps and men were finally becoming accustomed to women being in all but the combat specialties. Consequently, the NCOA requested two women to represent the organization for Flag Day. The CO chose Linda and I - Linda on the left in Class A dress uniform and me on the right in the lightweight summer cord uniform. We were surprised when the flag turned out to be larger than the garrison flag on base which measures a whopping 20 feet high and 38 feet long. The wind was blowing fiercely, threatening to blow us off our feet when it caught that monster flag, which is why we were leaning back with hunched shoulders!
