My DH and our middle daughter got to go on an honor flight with all that entails. In case you don’t know, Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics that became our national anthem while watching the bombardment of Fort McHenry (the Battle of Baltimore, part of the War of 1812). The British had recently burned down the White House among other things and Key was not sure the fort would survive the non-stop bombs being hurled at the fort.
In the top left picture Ed is saluting a statue meant to be William Stewart, Hospital Surgeon’s Mate, in one of the display rooms. His family has a long military history and there are records of them in the service all the way back to the American Revolution - many of them served as medical personnel, including his grandparents, his sister, and perhaps this William Stewart.
