I don't know if you know, but there is a wonderful app for count calories Fat Secret (just type www.fatsecret.com) is totally free, and super easy to use, also you can find recipes, etc. I've been doing some kind of "dirty keto" for a while, not counting calories, eating fruits like pear, apples and papaya, but never watermelon or grapes (they have a horrible amount of sugar and the GI goes really high), and in 6 months I'm 10 lbs less, so this year I've decided incorporate some kind of activity like bike and crosstrainer and start to count down calories, in theory I need 2300 calories per day, so if I'd eat 1300 per day, in a week is a 2 - 3 lbs less (1 kg aprox).
Good for you. I no longer following a specific low carb plan but have taken all the info I've learned over the last few yrs and have set up a plan that works for me. I generally eat under 40-60 carbs/day but some days go low fat and high (healthy) carbs, allowing beans, rice and oats. I try to eat the lower GI veggies/fruit more often than the higher carb ones. I don't eat wheat or white sugar and seldom eat white potatoes but do eat yams/sweet potatoes. This is working for me and I don't feel deprived at all. I too need to get back into exercise (I walk but need to get back into jogging) and want to get back into weightlifting.

Let's hope that 2020 is a healthy year for all of us!

I'm a little confused on the partial fasting, since often I don't have any food until (normal people's) dinnertime, then I have some dinner (lunch), and another smaller meal (supper) around 11pm or so (I go to bed between 3 & 4am most days, and get up around 10am). Is that partial fasting, do you think?

In 26 weeks eating a mainly plant based diet with a very small serving of fish, meat or chicken if I really feel like it at dinnertime I have lost 18 kilos. Go me! I did have a good Christmas and Boxing Day lunch with desserts and it didn't make much difference at all. Whenever there is a birthday and with 8 grown up kids, their partners and 13 grandchildren there are a lot of birthdays; I also have birthday cake - it would be rude not too LOL! If we go out for a meal I am much more conscious of eating the right foods now. Still only have half cup of coffee in the morning and not missing the 6 or 7 cups I used to have.

That's real fasting.. I don't fast, but also I don't eat bread, potatoes, beans, etc., but tons of lettuce and cucumber, because human body needs magnesium, potassium and water to burn calories. There are food that waste more calories in being processed, like cucumbers and lettuce, plus they give you a good amount of potassium to your body which put lower the insulin, so you don't feel hungry and your body burn calories. Just an idea.

Heather - yes that is fasting. I do somewhat of what they call dirty fasting. I generally don't eat between 9:30 pm and 11 am which is a short fast but I do have almond milk/cream (for coffee) in the morning. I don't do this to "fast" so much as I just am not a morning eater and am happy with coffee for most of the morning. I sometimes eat a few nuts and/or banana around 11 but don't eat the banana when I'm doing a high fat/really low carb day. I'll have lunch anywhere between noon-3 and then dinner around 7:30 with a snack around 9 and then I'm done for the day. I think your body knows what works well for it and follow your instincts. I get lots of flack for not being a morning eater and then eating later into the night but this works for me and is when I feel my best.

So I started a new journey today! I have done low-carb in the past and it worked great for me! But I can't bring myself to do that again. So I'm just going to do kind of a weight watcher thing. I have an app that I can scan or enter what I eat and it calculates the points like WW. I am also trying to drink half my body weight in water every day. We all should do that whether or not we're trying to lose weight, but I struggle! I would much rather have my Diet Coke! Lol!

Half your body-weight?! That sounds enormous!! I mean, even if you were only 100 lbs, that's 50 lbs of water, or 22 liters or so... that sounds like you could drown in that much.

ETA after I went googling... OH! In ounces!!! lol Phew, that's a lot better. =) Good luck Cheryl, we'll be rootin' for ya!

I stopped drinking pop/soda years ago and am now on a detox protocol that requires/highly suggests half my body weight in oz. of water, too! I whined to my health counselor about having to get up 3-5 times at night to go to the bathroom but she encouraged me to drink as much as I could earlier in the day. I'm doing it...maybe not quite half but pretty darn close if not more! Need to drink it before 3 pm, tho!! And, I add a squeeze of lemon often, water just doesn't taste as good without it! I didn't share that with my health counselor so I'm hoping that's acceptable! I took a ZYTO test and it showed that I may have been dealing with the Epstein Barr virus in my body and that could be a huge reason for the pain and need to see the chiro twice a week for the past 25 years! Starting that specific detox next week! Prayers that's the answer and I can stop the expensive trips to the chiro!!!! BUT, I'm craving food I'm not suppose to eat!!! Detoxing is HARD but prayerfully worth it!!

Wow @Glori2 , as hard as they may be, answers are the best. Might as well worry about something that's there rather than a whole bunch of things that aren't. Good luck with the detox. I have NOT done well on my diet the past couple of weeks--I really need to get myself back in hand, and that means not giving in to cravings. Ugh!

Sorry guys! I should clarify. You should drink half your body weight in ounces of water! . So if you weigh 100 pounds, drink 50 ounces of water per day!

Cheryl I think that WW is amazing. I see they have changed the plan slightly but it works on the same principle that I have been using at various times over the past few years. We started it again this week and I honestly feel so much better for it already. I really love that I can have some treats as long as I then manage the rest of my food intake for the day. I think it is an awesome system and really sets you up for good healthy eating habits by making you aware of what you're putting into your body. Good luck with it!

I went ahead and joined WW last week! I figure if I’m paying $5 a week then I have to stick to it! Lol! I agree! I love the freedom you have with it as long as you’re tracking everything. It doesn’t seem so much like a diet!

There is an app called Ultimate Food Value Diary. It’s pretty much the exact same thing. You have to buy the app but it’s no more than $10. It’s really good! You keep track of everything right there.

When I finished my BBD first thing I'll going to do is reading this thread!
