Oooh I love this idea Beth - This will be addictive.

I have just finished a book called 'The Hike' by Lucy Clark. I have just joined a book group and this is our first book and was written by a local author here in Dorset in the UK. It was a good book.

Will come back with the genres etc I love though I kind of read anything and everything voraciously.

I'm like you Karen - I LOVE all kinds of good books too and read every night. If I'm fortunate to find time during the day, I'll treat myself to an hour of reading (that way I don't get sleepy and can read more). If a book has an audible book included, I'm always happy to do that since I can scrap and listen at the same time....well, most of the time.

I'm currently reading "Whisper Me This" by Kerry Ann King and am in the early stages.

What a wonderful topic @Beth !
I just love to read, I try to find time for book every evening, and I often listen to audiobooks while designing.
I recently read The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, was very impresed by this book.
Now I'm reading We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker, it's a detective and I love it too.

Thanks for starting this @Beth! I can't wait to add more books to my "want to read" list!

The last few books I've "read" have been audiobooks and I've really enjoyed these:
Mad Honey and Wish You Were Here, both by Jodi Piccoult.
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center (this was a fun rom-com listen)

Ooh Karen I love Jodi Picoult books. I think I have read all of them. My favourite of hers was Leaving Time.
I enjoy courtroom books, psychological thrillers, books with a real human story and history … not so much romances. Some of my favourite authors are Jean Auel, Dan Brown, Jodi Picoult, Jeffrey Archer, Peter James, Frederick Backman

one of my greatest joys was when I ran a school I was in charge of the library. It was a huge library, we were very lucky. We’d get at leat 100 new books a year. One of my jobs I set myself was reading every new book that came in to the library for the 8+ age group, in theory to check they were ok and nothing unsuitable, but in reality I loved it. There were so many good books and it meant I could recommend books to the children easily.

I worked in a school media center as well Karen. I used to love reading young adult literature. I now read a lot of mysteries, police procedurals, psychological thrillers, but most recently have been reading womens literature, which has been a refreshing break from crime and death scenes :)

@Scrapdolly - I added Leaving Time to my list. I'll have to check out the other authors, too. I did read Anxious People by Frederick Backman. That was a fun read, I thought it was so interestingly written.

@Beth - I really like mysteries and thrillers too. Do you have any favorites you'd recommend?

Wow, what a great thread. So many authors that I've never read. My list is growing!

Believe it or not, my hubby and I have been reading the Bible most recently, although I do some other reading in my own time. I don't think I'd ever read the Old testament from cover to cover. We did that last year - I was really happy to be able to say I'd done that. This year we're reading the New Testament. We're almost there...and honestly, I'm excited to finish it! It's so hard to understand some of the writings in it (Lol, neither of us are a fan of Paul's writing style in his letters) - we spend half our time looking stuff up to see what it means.

My all time favorite author is Khaled Housseini. I love books that introduce new cultures and how life may be there - his books are partially set in Afghanistan. WARNING - there are a lot of difficult/disturbing events in them - so it's not light reading. But, I honestly can't put them down. I've read each of his books several times: The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, And the Mountains Echoed. He has such a gift describing scenes. If you haven't read these, I highly recommend them...and now I want to go read them again. He also has a small book out about the refugee crisis that I need to read.

Another favorite author is Ken Follett. I love his Pillars of the Earth Series (another older series). He is a brilliantly descriptive author. I love how he describes the building of the cathedrals. Some of these are racier than I usually like to read, but the historical aspect of them always draws me in.

The last one that I'll mention is Follow the River by James Alexander Thom. It's an older book about a woman that is kidnapped by Indians in 1755 here in what would become the eastern part of the US. This is based on a true story...and still amazes me that people have that kind of strength in such horrible situations. This is another one that I've read multiple times (yup, I'm weird that way.)

I do like lighter reading, too. I'll recommend some of them when I post again :)

I love all of Ann Patchett's books. The first one I read was Bel Canto about 20 years ago and I just loved it so much.

I really LOVE to read and spend an extreme amount of money on books for my kids  Our local library does not have many English books and I would rather they read actual books instead of reading on the Kindle which = more screen time.

I don't read as much as I used to, mainly before of the time factor. But one book I just LOVED recently was The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. So thought provoking (but not intense) and just a wonderful read.

I love all the books by Michael Connolly (he wrote the Lincoln Lawyer and MANY other detective type books) as well as Jonathan Kellerman. I've also enjoyed quite a few books by Taylor Jenkins Reid (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo & other books). They are summer holiday reads. And I love everything by Sarah Winman. Slightly imaginary worlds but based in reality.

I could go on!

Thanks for this great topic @Beth

I love reading thrillers, once I start I can't stop reading. My favorite author is Karen Rose... I LOVE her books.
I used to read a lot more than I do now.

Karen Rose writes thrillers that are worldwide bestsellers and have received multiple awards. She is an American author and is called the queen of romantic suspense. Her thrillers are horribly exciting with a good dose of romance.
Her books can regularly be found on the bestseller lists
Check her out girls

I'm currently reading (listening) through Kim Harrison's The Hollows series (started with The Turn and have currently worked up to Black Magic Sanction). They're on my physical bookshelf in my living room, but I don't have the time to put a book in my hands right now :( Audible is currently my best friend lol. She said she wasn't going to write anymore for the series then has popped out several more books so I started it over from the beginning. I have her Madison Avery series too but haven't started them yet

also waiting in the wings or in the works on my audible account:

The Mortal Instruments series
Jane Hawk series by Dean Koontz
Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter (although I'm finding the narrator a bit annoying)
The Women's Murder Club by James Patterson - another series on my physical bookshelf
Hive Trilogy by Jaymin Eve & Leia stone
Fever series by Karen Marie Moning
Mercy Thompson series and the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs
and several stephen king books i don't have yet - the outsider, bazaar of bad dreams, sleeping beauties, and the institute

Those of you who like detective stories, the Women's Murder Club is a good one and he's up to 24 so far. I made it to 16 but it's been a couple of years, so I'm going to have to start over. Oh darn. LOL

Mercy Thompson and The Hollows are by far my most favorite. This is my 3rd time reading the Hollows, and I've read Mercy Thompson twice. I love series, and I love vampires, werewolves, witches, fairies, shapeshifters, etc

I'm one of those that has to have the audible and the paperback or hardcover on my shelf. Thankfully, I found Thriftbooks, so Nick can't get too mad about it, lol

This is such a fabulous thread. I was always a good reader, and I used to be a writer for a long time.
I used to read in Spanish and English, but now I only read in Spanish.
My big love is Latin authors and drama novels that also involves different culture from other countries.
But now, I became obsessed with Thrillers and Mysteries.
The best book I have read lately is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides.
I genuinely recommend it; it is fantastic, so well written, and the end is an absolute surprise.
I started one night and finished the following afternoon.
Right now, I am reading some Mysteries by Greg Dunnet, but I am not so impressed, so I am waiting to finish them all and buy something better. I will look for some titles here, but sometimes, it is hard to find them in Spanish.
Someone here said that read or listen to audiobooks...(I can't do it, I tried...I need the proper and classic book in my hands) while you are designing...WHAT?
@tiramisu ...it is you; you just became my idol...how do you manage to concentrate on listening and designing simultaneously?

And Again, @Beth and everyone that listens and scrap at the same time...how do you do that?
I need to try an audio book, I am very afraid I won't be able to concentrate.

I love that you started this conversation @Beth. Thank you!

I used to read a lot when I was a teenager and young adult. After my daughter was born and life got very busy I couldn't find time and it was hard to concentrate when I had time. Then, I spent some years reading non-fiction books. This year, I tried to get back, but I had a very slow comeback.

Currently, I'm reading Pride and Prejudice which I know everyone has already read but as I used to avoid "old" stories (sorry, I have no idea how to say that in English... when the stories happen in old times, especially when women were treated as they weren't capable of anything or there was slavery. It's really hard for me to read those things). However, after learning a bit about the author and the book I realized I may like this one and decided to give it a try.

I like romances, investigations, and I want to start fantasies and sci-fi books since these are the kinds of movies I like watching.

I read some cute romances this year which I like reading a lot. I know it's not everyone who likes this genre. I read two by Emily Henry and I really like so I intend to read more of her books.

I cannot concentrate completely... sometimes I listen to YouTube videos, but I know I don't get everything as I would if I were focused on watching them.
